On Saturday, September 11th, Bob and I trekked up to Gary, South Dakota for a little business and a little pleasure. Bob went to help a friend of ours set up the new website for the Buffalo Ridge Resort and Business Center and I tagged along just to get some cool shots. When we got there, they asked if they could hire me for some photos for their new website and perhaps some literature. Of course I said yes.

One of the difficulties I faced was the angle of the sun. It was a very clear, bright day so all of the shadows were harsher than I would have liked. Additionally, there was a wedding taking place so it was a little difficult to snap shots and not be in the other people's way and not have them in my shots of the buildings.

The facility used to be the state school for the blind. You can read more about the history of the campus on their website, but they did a very nice job of updating it and still keeping the history alive. There are still some renovations being made but when complete it will be a pretty outstanding place.

There is a quiet little creek that flows into little Lake Elsie. On the west bank of the lake is a large teepee that you can crawl into. On the north shore there is a bridge over a small dam the creates the lake which flows back into the small creek on the other side. There's also a campground on the north shore and a hiking trail that goes up into the trees.

In the basement of one of the buildings in the Rock Room Bar and Grill. They have great food and a cozy atmosphere. Upstairs is the Noveau Boutique where they sell Buffalo Ridge gear and Reina Hope jewelry. Very cute, rustic space.

All in all it was a great trip. I encourage you to head up there some time for a weekend or  just a day trip.
